Diese Band hatte 2003 die Ehre, das Cropredy-Festival zu eröffnen.

Gerry Colvin wurde in Barrow-In-Furness geboren. In den späten 80'er Jahren war er Mitbegründer der Skiffle- und Cowpunk-Band Terry & Gerry, die es sogar bis auf Platz 1 der Independant Charts schaffte. In den 90'er Jahren verbrachte er einige Zeit in Nashville
als professioneller Songschreiber; ebenso wirkte er auf einem Album von Alison Moyet mit. Dann gründete er The Atlantics.
Gerry Colvin fungierte ein paar Mal als Moderator beim Glastonbury Festival.

Nick Quarmby wurde in Birmingham geboren, lebte ab 1967 in Gloucestershire. In den 80'ern wirkte er in verschiedenen Blues Bands mit, ehe er 1991 zu den Dockery Boys stieß. Deren erstes Album wurde in seinem eigenen Studio aufgenommen, wo nicht viel später die Phil Beer Band zu Proben erschien, bei der Quarmby dann Bass spielte, u.a. auf dem Livealbum von 2000. Nick Quarmby, der auch noch Akustikgitarre spielt, traf Gerry Colvin 1996 im Albert Inn in Bedminster, Bristol. Sie waren sich sympathisch, traten drei Jahre lang als Duo auf, und veröffentlichten 1998 das Album "Colvin Quarmby".

Martin Fitzgibbon, zuvor schon Schlagzeuger der Dockery Boys, schloß sich zu Beginn des Jahres 2000 den beiden an und steuerte neben seinen Fähigkeiten als Perkussionist auch guten Backgroundgesang bei. Martin Fitzgibbon wirkte zuvor u.a. an der Originalproduktion der Rocky Horror Picture Show mit.

Als Trio veröffentlichte Colvin Quarmby im Oktober 2000 das Album "Town And Country Times"

2002 erschien dann, verstärkt durch den sehr guten Gitarristen Johnny Harris, ihr drittes Werk "Beth's Electric Birthday"

Gerry Colvin schreibt ansprechende Texte über das Leben und die Liebe (die verlorene mit Vorliebe), und der Musikstil der Band reicht von Power Pop bis hin zu Nashville-Anleihen. Das erste Stück, Bone In A Dinosaur, einigen vielleicht schon durch den Sampler Heart Of England II bekannt, weckt angenehme Erinnerungen an die Musik der Byrds und der ach so vergessenen
Flamin' Groovies. Textlich versucht es klar zu machen, daß wir alle nur der kleine Knochen eines großen Tieres sind.
Nobody ist eine wunderbare, von Akustikgitarren getragene, Ballade mit der sich selbst Hoffnung machenden Textzeile "She chose nobody instead of me". A Spoon Stirring North Of The Border könnte man als Pub-Rock mit Westcoast-Einflüssen beschreiben, sehr rhythmisch, mit 2 herausragenden Gitarren, groovig swingend und mit sehr ansprechendem mehrstimmigem Gesang. I Will Catch You hat die Qualität der besten Aufnahmen von James Taylor, was vielleicht mit ein Entscheidungskriterium für Dave Pegg gewesen ist, die Band zu buchen. Johnny Harris zaubert ein sehr schönes Akustikgitarrensolo aus seinen Saiten. Angenehm an Klassiker wie "You've Got A Friend" erinnert fühlt man sich bei Watching Feathers Fall, mit herrlichen Akustikgitarren und perfektem Harmoniegsang. Riversong sorgt mit seinem Reggae- und Calypso-Feeling für willkommene Abwechslung, und das Finale wird bei guter Stimmung das Publikum in Cropredy sicherlich zum Mitträllern animieren. The Ballad Of Steve Chamberlain ist für diesen Rahmen ausgesprochen rockig, mit gekonnter Gitarrenarbeit, interessanten Breaks und einer klassichen Leadgitarre von Harris. The House Of The Setting Sun, mit zum Zuhören motivierendem Text, wird umrahmt von zwei effektiv eingesetzten Akustikgitarren. The Queen Of Clouds ist der im Power Pop-Stil Ende der 70'er gehaltene, von knackigem Bass und markanten Drums vorangetriebene, Abschluß einer auf das Konzert in Cropredy 2003 Appetit machenden CD.

This band is honoured by opening this year's Cropredy festival.
Gerry Colvin was born in Barrow-In-Furness. In the late 80's he co-founded a skiffle & cowpunk
Band named Terry & Gerry who even made it to No.1 in the independent charts.
In the 90's he stayed in Nashville for a while working as a professional songwriter.
He also played on an album by Alison Moyet. Later on he founded The Atlantics.
Gerry was a compere at Glastonbury a few times as well.
Nick Quarmby was born in Birmingham, but he lived in Gloucestershire since 1967.
In the 80's he was playing in some Blues bands. In 1991 he joined the Dockery Boys.
Their first album was recorded in his own studio. Phil Beer recorded there as well, and soon
Nick became bass player in the Phil Beer Band, e.g. on the 2000 live album.
Nick Quarmby, who also plays the acoustic guitar, met Gerry Colvin in 1996 at the Albert Inn
in Bedminster, Bristol. They liked each other and started working as a duo.
In 1998 they released an album called "Colvin Quarmby"

Martin Fitzgibbon, who used to be drummer with the Dockery Boys joined them at the
beginning of 2000 and contributed some fine backing vocals besides his qualities as a
percussionist. Martin Fitzgibbon was taking part at the original production of the
Rocky Horror Picture Show.

As a trio Colvin Quarmby released "Town And Country Times" in 2000.
In 2002 their third album, "Beth's Electric Birthday" came out.
Meanwhile Johnny Harris, a very good guitarist, had become
the fourth member of Colvin Quarmby.

Gerry Colvin comes up with some fine lyrics about life at all and about love, of course, especially
the loss of it. Their musical style ranges from Power Pop to Nashville. The first number,
Bone In A Dinosaur had been released on the "Heart Of England II" sampler as well.
It reminds me back to the good old days of the Byrds and the Flamin' Groovies (who sadly
nobody knows) in a very positive way.
The lyrics say that we all are nothing more than a little bone inside a big animal.
Nobody is a wonderful ballad, carried by acoustic guitars and the lyrics are full of hope
when saying "She chose nobody instead of me".
A Spoon Stirring North Of The Border could be characterised as a sort of Pub Rock with some ingredients of West Coast, rhythmically great, with high class guitar playing, swinging and
grooving along, and the vocal arrangement is really wonderful.
I Will Catch You comes close to some of the best recordings of James Taylor, which might have
been one of the reasons for Dave Pegg to book them. Johnny Harris plays wizard on the acoustic
lead guitar. Reminders to "You've Got A Friend" come up when listening to Watching Feathers Fall, with some fine acoustic guitar playing again and vocals in perfect harmony.
Riversong is a change of style, having a kind of Reggae / Calypso feeling, and its chorus might
cause the Cropredy audience to join in.
The Ballad Of Steve Chamberlain is one of the rockier numbers of the album, again with some fine guitar, and having interesting breaks. Harris' lead guitar playing is classic.
The House Of The Setting Sun causes listening to the lyrics and is musically sandwitched
between two effectively accompanying acoustic guitars.
The Queen Of Clouds has got the feeling of fading 70's Power Pop driven by powerful bass
playing and great drumming.
It's the last number of an enjoyable CD which really is an appetizer for Cropredy.
